IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR SCHNUCKS MEMBERS
REGARDING WAREHOUSE SITUATION
Dear Schnucks Member,
As you are probably aware, Schnucks is opening a new distribution warehouse. Currently, Schnucks warehouse workers are members of Teamster Local 688; drivers are members of Teamster Local 610. Schnucks at this time has stated that they have hired a third party to run the new warehouse. The third party Schnucks has hired does not have an agreement with Teamster Local 688 and it appears the new workforce will be NON-UNION with much lower wages and benefits than current warehouse employees.
As of last weekend Saturday, April 9th,Teamster members began leafleting select stores. It is my understanding that the Teamsters plan to continue this activity and increase it in the weeks to come. At this time they are NOT asking for a boycott. Although there have been some calls for a boycott of Schnucks on social media sites, I want to repeat the Teamsters are NOT asking for a boycott!
In recent weeks, I have had almost daily conversations with the leadership of Teamster Local 688. In addition to attending their union meeting I was asked and attended a recent meeting with leadership from the Teamsters International and Todd Schnuck on this issue. At this time it appears Mr. Schnuck is not willing to reconsider his position.
I want to make clear to all members; employers have disciplined employees who have posted derogatory comments about their employers on social media sites. Please feel free to post your support for the Teamsters but please refrain from posting derogatory comments about Schnucks. In addition, I urge you that if you have any customers that question you about the issue at the warehouse refer them to your store manager.
It is my intention to work with and support the Teamsters any way we can during their dispute with Schnucks. I live by the thought of an attack against one is an attack against all! We want and will do everything we can to support the Teamsters. What we don’t want, is any member of Local 655 being disciplined for their comments to a customer or a post on social media.
