Friends,
Last night, the UFCW family had another victory as our partners working at Dierbergs Central Kitchen approved a new contract that, for the first time, gave every single one of the employees in the store a pay raise. Often, long-term employees are the ones dominating contract negotiations as newer or part-time employees avoid the contract meetings. This can create an imbalance.
But the UFCW family fights hard for a raise for all workers, because better pay is the best way to a better life. Because of the involvement of employees at every level at Dierbergs Central Kitchen, because they attended meetings and made their voices heard, every single one of them got a raise yesterday. That’s something to celebrate.
Contract negotiations are a give-and-take process, and no contract is perfect, or without room for improvement. But when hard-working people come out in numbers and attend our meetings, when they voice their concerns, make their demands clear, and take part in the process, we can do more for them. Those working at Central Kitchen know it, and the rest of the UFCW family can know it too.
It’s vital that you stay informed about your contract, that you know when negotiations are starting, and that you attend our meetings. More than 100 employees at Central Kitchen got a raise yesterday, because the UFCW family fights for each other to get the better life you’ve worked so hard for.
Ask your union rep or shop steward about when your contract meetings begin.
