Statement from President David Cook on Andrew Puzder
UFCW Local 655 President David Cook is pleased to see Andrew Puzder withdraw himself from considering to serve as Secretary of Labor in President Trump’s administration.
“Given recent reports that have come to light, it is clear that Mr. Puzder’s values were not the values of hard-working families. His withdrawal proves that the American people still have a voice and the power to shape our government,” Cook said. “Now, the question is who comes next?”
Puzder’s career clearly shows he does not value the contributions of hard-working men and women in many industries, and the Secretary of Labor should be an individual who has the interests of middle class families in mind, not the interests of big corporations, Cook said.
“Whomever the nominee for labor secretary is, they must respect the rights of all hard-working men and women. They must realize that their job is not to protect the interests of irresponsible corporations, but to protect the rights of all workers, including our members, who deserve and have earned a better life.”
