A Message from President David Cook,
First, I’d like to send a message directly to our lawmakers in Jefferson City and remind them of the history of Right to Work For Less in Missouri:
You should have studied history before voting against the Middle Class in Missouri and tried to enact this dangerous law. One way or another, 2018 will be a referendum on Right to Work for Less. Remember when the voters voted against Right to Work in 1978? The people of Missouri do. The elected officials that supported it were voted out of office. I’ll make sure to do my part to vote against so-called “Right to Work” on the 2018 ballot, and I will certainly vote against every single lawmaker who supported it.
To the hard-working people of Missouri, whether you are in a Union or not:
If you are really willing to help fight Right to Work for Less by volunteering to help us gather signatures to put Right to Work for Less on the ballot in 2018, please send me an email at nortw@ufcw655.org
with your name and phone number
. I’m starting a database of volunteers so that when we get our petitions certified, we will be ready to go. Putting an issue on the ballot requires manpower and hard work, but I am confident we can do it with your help. Thank you in advance for volunteering to fight for middle class Missourians.
We welcome anyone who is willing to do the work to give the people of Missouri the choice on this issue. I am confident they will choose to vote against so-called Right to Work. They will vote for the middle class, for the right of workers to bargain together. Spread the word. This is the fight, and we will win, with your help.
Not only does Right-to-Work drive down wages, decrease worker safety and reduce benefits, but it’s yet another example of government interfering with business.
If a business wants to sign a contract with employers that says all their workers will be hard-working union members, that contract would be ILLEGAL under this law. Not only that, but contracts that employees have ALREADY signed with their employers would be made retroactively illegal under this new law. Why are Missouri politicians interfering with businesses and hurting workers rather than focusing on growing jobs, improving wages, and enhancing worker safety and benefits?
It’s not too late though! You can still have your voice heard. Whether Democrat, Republican, or Independent, you can call your lawmaker and tell them you didn’t send them to Jefferson City to take away your rights and interfere with businesses all across the state.
